Books & Publications

Bidhan Chandra Pal has worked with dedication across a wide range of fields throughout different stages of his professional and social journey. Among these are youth leadership and development, women’s empowerment, strengthening local government, good governance, the responsible use of modern technology, public health, and building, establishing, and strengthening organisations and institutions.

Yet, throughout his journey, environmental protection and climate change have remained a particularly important and consistent area of engagement. The experience and knowledge he has gained through his work have also shaped his writing. He has regularly documented his reflections, observations, and learning through articles, essays, books, and other forms of publication. He believes in sharing what he learns and making knowledge accessible to others.

Bidhan regularly writes in both Bangla and English for leading media outlets and publications in Bangladesh. Environmental issues, climate change, sustainability, social development, governance, culture, and contemporary issues are among the recurring themes in his writing.

Literature and Poetry

Alongside his professional and development work, Bidhan has maintained a longstanding engagement with poetry, literature, and the arts. He has published a number of poetry collections, with many of his books developed around specific themes or subjects. He particularly enjoys writing thematic poetry, allowing him to explore particular ideas, experiences, emotions, and social realities in depth.

Some of his poetry collections have also been translated and published in English. His poems have been recited by renowned recitation artists from both Bangladesh and West Bengal, and selected recitations have been released through audio and cultural compilations that reached audiences across the two Bengals.

In 2012, a recitation album featuring Bidhan’s own voice, Protashar Protiddhoni (Echoes of Hope), was released and became one of the pioneering DVD-based recitation albums of its time in Bangladesh.

Documenting the Life Stories of Distinguished Bangladeshis

One of Bidhan’s notable knowledge and cultural initiatives was undertaken through Knowledge Trust, where he initiated an interview-based documentation project focusing on the formative years of distinguished personalities of Bangladesh.

The initiative sought to document their childhood, adolescence, youth, early experiences, personal journeys, and the circumstances that shaped their lives and contributions. Rather than focusing only on their later achievements, the project aimed to preserve their personal narratives and the experiences behind those achievements.

Reflecting on the significance of the 1952 Language Movement, Bidhan selected 52 distinguished personalities for this initiative. Their life stories and reflections were subsequently published in book form by leading publishing houses in Bangladesh, while a major national television channel also produced and released a DVD collection based on the initiative.

The initiative has, at different times, received appreciation and recognition both in Bangladesh and internationally for its pioneering approach to preserving personal histories, memories, and intellectual heritage.

Research, Editing and Collaborative Contributions

Bidhan has also contributed to numerous publications beyond books authored entirely by him. Over the years, he has worked closely with many distinguished personalities, writers, professionals, academics, social leaders, and cultural figures, contributing in different ways to their work and publications.

He has served as an editor of several books and has contributed writing, research, documentation, interviews, editorial support, and other forms of intellectual and creative input to publications by others.

His current interests also include research into the evolution and history of handwriting, reflecting his broader interest in human expression, historical documentation, culture, and the preservation of knowledge.
