Biography

Bidhan Chandra Pal is a Bangladeshi climate and sustainability leader, ecological restoration practitioner, systems thinker, green business leader, and pioneer in advancing greening education in Bangladesh. He is dedicated to advancing climate action, environmental education, ecosystem restoration, and sustainable development through innovative approaches that connect knowledge, entrepreneurship, policy engagement, technology, and community participation. For more than 25 years, he has worked at the intersection of environment, education, social innovation, and community empowerment, creating platforms and initiatives that contribute to long-term environmental and social impact.

His life mission is to contribute to addressing climate change by building an integrated ecosystem where education, ecological restoration, responsible entrepreneurship, innovation, and communities work together to create a sustainable and resilient future. He believes that climate solutions require systemic transformation- where people are empowered with knowledge, institutions embrace sustainability, businesses become environmentally responsible, and communities actively participate in restoring nature.

After decades of engagement in social development, youth leadership, education, technology, and innovation, Bidhan has dedicated the current chapter of his journey to advancing Probha Aurora as a platform for climate action, ecological restoration, sustainability transformation, and environmental leadership.

He is the Founder and Managing Director of Probha Aurora Ltd., a socially committed enterprise advancing sustainable solutions, and the Founder and Chairman of Probha Aurora Foundation, a nonprofit platform dedicated to environmental sustainability, education, ecological restoration, and community impact. Through these complementary platforms, he promotes an integrated model that connects sustainable green business, environmental stewardship, education, and community empowerment to generate lasting impact.

Probha Aurora operates through six interconnected pillars- Greening Education, Sustainable Green Business, Ecosystem Restoration, Planetary Health, ICT & Youth Opportunities, and Climate-Focused Governance. Through this restoration-centered, systems-based framework, the organization integrates education, policy engagement, innovation, technology, and community participation to address climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation. Its work contributes to strengthening ecological resilience, advancing nature-positive development, supporting sustainable livelihoods, and promoting inclusive, community-led restoration practices.

Under Bidhan’s leadership, Probha Aurora became the National Operator of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) in Bangladesh in 2022. Through this platform, internationally recognized programmes including Eco-Schools, Learning about Ecosystems and Forests (LEAF), Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE), EcoCampus, and Green Key are being implemented and contextualized for Bangladesh. These initiatives advance environmental literacy, sustainability leadership, and responsible environmental practices across educational institutions, communities, and the tourism sector.

Beyond programme implementation, Bidhan is actively contributing to the advancement of greening education in Bangladesh by promoting sustainability-focused learning environments, climate literacy, and youth leadership. His work aligns with the global movement to transform education systems so that learners develop the knowledge, values, and skills needed to address climate change, protect biodiversity, and build sustainable societies. Through Probha Aurora and FEE programmes, he works to integrate sustainability principles into educational institutions and empower educators, students, and communities to become active contributors to climate resilience and environmental stewardship.

Bidhan has a strong long-term vision for developing large-scale ecological restoration initiatives that generate lasting environmental and community benefits. A Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner in Training (CERPIT), he actively contributes to advancing ecological restoration through collaborative, interdisciplinary, and youth-driven approaches. His work focuses on connecting science, education, policy, and practice to scale restoration solutions and empower communities as active participants in climate action.

His contributions to the global ecological restoration movement include active engagement with the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER). He is a Core Group Member of the SER Asia Network and contributes to the SER Open Door Committee and SER Webinar Organizing Committee (Asia). He has also been selected as a member of the Global Organizing Committee for the 12th World Conference on Ecological Restoration (SER2027).

Bidhan’s international leadership and collaboration extend across climate action, environmental education, sustainable tourism, and social innovation networks. He served as Global Committee Chair of Make a Difference Week (MADW) in 2025 and was re-elected Chair for 2026–2027. He serves as an International Board Member of the Asian Ecotourism Network (AEN), Alliance Member of the Global Climate and Health Alliance (GCHA), Founding Core Team Member of the South and East Asia Neuro Climate Group, and Member of the Executive Council of the Center for Urban Studies (CUS), a Bangladesh-based national research organization working on urban development and related issues. He also contributes to networks including the South and Southeast Asia Network on Environmental Education (SASEANEE), CONCH, and other regional and international collaborative platforms supporting climate action, environmental education, sustainable development, and ecological restoration.

Before dedicating his primary focus to climate and sustainability, Bidhan built extensive experience in social development, youth empowerment, gender equality, child and adolescent development, technology for social impact, and good governance. From his early years, he was actively involved in social, cultural, and volunteer initiatives including the Scouts movement, Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC), and youth-led as well as United Nations–related volunteer activities. These experiences shaped his lifelong commitment to public service, leadership, teamwork, and community development.

He has played pioneering roles in establishing and strengthening several initiatives and organizations, including TraumaLink, the National Girls’ Child Advocacy Forum, mPower Social Enterprises, and others, contributing to social innovation, inclusive development, and community-based solutions in Bangladesh.

Beyond environmental leadership, Bidhan is a published poet, writer, and cultural advocate. Through the establishment of Knowledge Trust, he documented the life journeys, reflections, and contributions of distinguished personalities from Bangladesh. The initiative, known as Shetubondhon, received recognition through media collaborations including Channel i and Abosar, resulting in documentary and book publications preserving important cultural narratives and personal histories.

As a poet and writer, Bidhan has published more than 20 books, including poetry collections, and some of his literary works have been translated into English. He has worked closely with distinguished personalities and contributed to the publication of their works. He has also served as the main editor of several published books. In 2012, his recitation album Protashar Protiddhoni (Echoes of Hope) recognized as one of Bangladesh’s pioneering DVD recitation albums. His recitation works have reached audiences across both Bengals through multiple cultural productions. He regularly contributes articles and essays to newspapers and publications on social, environmental, cultural, and development issues.

Alongside his professional and creative pursuits, Bidhan is a member of the National Philatelic Association and a collector of stamps and coins, reflecting his lifelong interest in history, heritage, and cultural preservation.
